Taking your make up off at the end of a long day can feel like such a chore. After spending 30 minutes or so in the morning preening yourself to perfection, I’m sure the last thing you want to think about is switching up your night time routine! The thought of adding extra time or effort to my cleansing routine really freaked me out, but when I found that you can simply swap your everyday items to reusable ones without making major changes, I was really excited to try them out for myself.
The pads and wipes we use everyday almost always end up in landfill, and if they don’t – they probably and sadly take a detour into our beautiful ocean. I’m sure you all remember Fatberg that was all over the news a few years ago which was made up of over 5,000 wet wipes…gross!
Switching your makeup removal routine from disposable to reusable can be daunting and it seems like such a faff! But I have discovered some products which are so easy to switch that I have barely noticed the difference – and they are so much better for your skin too!
The first product I switched to was the Bambaw Reusable Makeup Pads.
Made up of Bamboo and Cotton, these super soft pads are so effective at removing make up! The first time I used them, I felt like I was breaking rules as seeing your makeup come off onto fabric (i,e worst case scenario – someones shirt you have just hugged…yes this has happened to me many a times) is usually a heart stopping moment. But when I actually saw just how much more was coming off in one go and how much cleaner my face felt after, I was instantly won over!
Not only that, I tested to see just how much better they are than your cotton wool pads and removed my makeup as usual with the disposable pads. I then went back over what I thought was a ‘clean’ face with the Bambaw Pads and so much more makeup came off! It made me realise just how much the wool pads are only just scraping the surface – but with the reusable ones it is a much deeper cleanse.
These come in a pack of 16 (12 soft and 4 exfoliating) and also come with a cotton wash bag to throw in with your general washing.
Tip: I rinse the pads with hot water after use and then put them in the wash bag to avoid any makeup leaks on them shiny whites.

The second swap I made to reusable makeup removal was the Vesta Living Reusable Cotton Face Wipes.
These pocket sized squares are essentially cotton face wipes which you can throw in the wash with the rest of your washing! You simply apply your micellar water or lotion to the wipe and scrub away as usual.
They are the perfect swap for conventional makeup removal wipes and are much better for your skin as they are 100% natural, super soft and leave your skin feeling super fresh and clean!
They don’t come with a travel or wash bag like the Bambaw Pads, so it may be worth picking up a little string bag or cute makeup bag to travel with. Or, throw them in with the Bambaw Pads!
Tip: I got pink so that you can’t see the pesky waterproof make up stains.

And last but definitely not least – The Konjac Sponge Co Facial Puff Sponge – French Clay
This is a mineral-rich sponge which is suitable for oily and spot prone skin types – A.K.A ME.
You simply soak it in warm water and gently wash away any impurities. It weirdly has the textured of a crumpet when it’s wet (try it and you’ll know what I mean) and is so soft that you can even use it on your eye area too. It has a flat side and a curved side so that you can really get into those nooks and crannies on your face without scrubbing too hard. The sponge naturally draws out impurities and toxins whilst deeply cleansing your pores which leaves your face smoother and fresher.
My face has felt so much cleaner and my complexion has really brightened up since using it, and my pores don’t look as prominent as they did a couple of weeks ago. I also love the fact that it’s completely natural, deeply cleanses your skin without all the chemicals and easily fits in your handbag for sleepovers.
Oh and it’s also Biodegradable, Vegan and Cruelty-free…woohoo!

Overall, I would say making the switch from disposable to reusable makeup removal has been pleasantly surprising. It’s been really nice to know that my new routine has a much lesser effect on the environment and that I have actually seen benefits to my skin health too! I would definitely recommend the reusable pads and Konjac sponge for people with sensitive and oily skin.
For anyone thinking of making the switch, I’d say go for it! There are so many products out there and you never know what hidden gem you might find. I only switched three items, but I am so excited to see what else I can swap out and continue my reusable makeup removal journey.
I would love to hear about any products you have found and currently use. And if you are just starting your reusable makeup removal journey – I would love to know how you get on!
