Lightroom is the most common and widely used photo editing for Bloggers and Instagrammers across the world. Once you get the hang of it, it is the most straight forward and useful photo editing app out there and even better…the mobile app is completely free!
Here I am going to talk through five easy tips for getting you started on Lightroom. Of course there are many ways in which you can edit and enhance your photos on Lightroom, but these five tips will be a great starting point to get the hang of it and figure out your own editing style to create your own preset.
The first thing to do is take a high quality image. Check out my top tips on how to create amazing content with your iPhone!
From there it’s time to import your image and start editing!
To import an image just click the little + icon in the bottom right corner. Select the photo and it will automatically open to the below editing screen, with all your editing icons at the bottom.
Once you’re in this screen, this is where there fun starts!
The great thing about Lightroom is that there is an Auto option, which automatically balances out and brightens your image. So if you’re just getting started, definitely check out the Auto editing and play around with all the dials from there. OR if you don’t fancy having Lightroom play around with your photo, just miss out this step and continue to the next step below.

Can you see how much Auto has brightened and enhanced my image already?
From there, the first thing I would do is turn up the Sharpening. This can be found under the Detail Icon. It just brings out all the detail and makes the photo a lot more dimensional.

Once you’ve sharpened up your image, it’s time to get the temperature right. Under the Colour icon, you can move the Temp dial to suit your own aesthetic and feel of your image.
It doesn’t stop there though! Have a play around with Tint, Vibrance and Saturation…these are all amazing for having a fluid feel through all of your photos.
The next thing to do after that is play around with individual colours. In the same Colour icon, you will see a little rainbow dial in the top right hand corner. Click into that and you will see all the colours at the top and 3 sliding bars at the bottom which you can play around with. Have a play and figure out what style you like and what colours you want your feed to mainly consist of.

Now that you’ve figured out your colour palette, you can play around with the Light. As you can see in the below snap, the Auto option I clicked right at the beginning has balanced out a few things for me already. So at this point, I am going to keep these the same, but if you skipped this step and went straight onto Sharpening, just check out the image below for which dials were edited.

So you’ve done quite a bit already in only 4 steps, and it’s looking a lot more professional and bold already!
My fifth and final step to using Lightroom mobile is Texture, which can be found under the Effects icon. Can you see how the below images differ just from this one tool? The left image I reduced the texture, and the right image I enhanced it.
So there it is! My five quick and easy tips to get you started on Lightroom mobile, to edit and create your own professional photo editing style.
Once you’ve found your style, the most important thing is to save your preset in Lightroom so that you can use the same editing style again on all your photos. Check out my blog post here on how to create and save your own preset on Lightroom and how to create amazing content with your iPhone!
