If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that I love a home workout! And since the gyms have been closed I’ve been doing them a whole lot more.
At the beginning of the year, the only equipment I had at home was a yoga mat – which worked fine but meant my actual strength training was very limited.
So, here are some of the best at home workout equipments that I’ve collated over the last few months which have completely transformed my home workout routine without breaking the bank.
These are great for running, jump squats, donkey kicks…the whole lot! The little weighted sand bags are removable meaning you can add and remove weight to suit your ability and workout level. Such a bargain and a great place to start if you’re wanting to train your legs and glutes.
These are available from 1kg to 6kg, so they’re the perfect all rounder to work your arms, abs and legs. I love using these as they’re big and bulky enough to use for a whole range of exercises. They’re also coated in neoprene which makes it easier to grip and lessens your risk of sore hands.
Resistance bands are another fab piece to add to your collection as they don’t take up much room, so they’re easy to tuck away when you’re not working out. They come in three different resistances which means you can mix up your exercises whilst ensuring all your muscles are worked. These ones are in pretty pastel colours…super cute!
This set is amazing for floor exercises and also cardio! The jumprope is such a diverse yet so simple form of exercise, and the ab roller is a killer which is sure to tighten those abs and shoulders! Definitely recommend this set if you’re looking to work your upper body.
This set is amazing because it includes the long bar, two shorter ones and 30kg worth of weight plates! Such a bargain for the amount of equipment you get and it is sure to transform your home workouts. I love using the bar to exercise at home as you can really feel it working your whole body, and it’s great for co-ordination too as it is quite a large bit of equipment. If you’ve never used one of these before, make sure to get a quick induction from your local gym to avoid any injuries.
These sand bags are great for squats, boxing and strength training exercises. They’re great if you get bored of the everyday repetitive exercise routines as they add a more spread out and weight lifting aspect. I would recommend not going over board on the weight as you don’t want to damage your back, and it also helps having a partner there to help remove it if you’re ever struggling.
Now this one might sound obvious, but picking up any old yoga mat when planning on doing a workout can actually be a waste of time and money. My old mat was specifically designed for yoga which meant any movement which involved friction, i.e, mountain climbers, burpees etc destroyed it and made it fall apart. It’s also really off putting when the surface is sliding around everywhere as it means you can’t fully concentrate on the exercise. I love this Proworks mat because it’s super durable and comes in lots of different colours!
Not many people use a foam roller – it’s one of those items that always sits at the back of the gym without ever being touched. But honestly, this is a game changer – and also so important when training your muscles! It’s great to cool down after a good workout and help give your muscles the TLC they deserve, so that in your next workout they are in even better shape.
Okay, so this last one seems questionable, but trust me on this – it works! It’s an acupressure mat & pillow set that allows the release of pain-blocking endorphins and helps relax muscles and stimulate nerves. With a focus on holistic pain & stress relief, it’s a great all-rounder for workouts and the struggles of daily life!
So, there are my top picks to make your at home workout as good and as interesting as possible!
Of course there are a variety of different equipments out there, and deciding which ones are right for you can be daunting – so I hope this little list of home workout equipment has helped!
